Hey ya’ll. I discovered a new blogger a few weeks ago and after reading just 3 entries, I added her to my google reader. If you haven’t checked her out, please visit Kay C, Thoughts from the Quiet Storm. Well, little I know that Kay C was doing a little reading of her own. When I checked her out last week, she had received a “Versatile Blogger Award”. Nice!! She had to provide 7 random facts about herself and then pass the award on to some other worthy bloggers. Low and behold (sounding like my grandma LuLu right there), she gave one to me. Me??? MrsTDJ?? Really?? I was shocked ya’ll. I enjoyed chatting it up over here, sharing the thoughts in my head and retelling the stories of all the random whackos that I run into, but I never thought anyone would pass me an award. To quote another blogger, Krystal Grant, sometimes I just feel kinda random over here.
Anyways, thank you from the bottom of my big ole heart, Kay C! I enjoy reading you too.
So, now, 7 random facts about ya girl. Hmm, let’s see:
1) I had loved my name since I was old enough to say it. Seems silly, no? I know folks who hate their name or just think that it’s ok, but not me. First, middle and last – LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT. I used to spend hours just writing my name on sheets of paper, coloring it with crayons, painting it on my art easel, etc. Ii even made up a million names of boys who’s first name went well with MY last name! What a nut! Anyway, my married last name? Me no likey too much. *lol* Don’t worry; it’s not a military secret; I told MrTDJ not long after I met him.
2) Music makes me high! I enjoy music sooooooo much. It’s in the background 24/7, no matter what else I’m doing. Sitting at my desk right now, listening to the new Leela James CD, which is absolute FIYAH!! I’ve got playlists in my ipod for all reasons and seasons, “Get It Girl” for when I workout, “Write Right Now” for when I’m writing, “Lift Me” for when I need a little gospel inspiration, and many others.
3) Related to #2, but deserving of its own mention – I LOVE DISCO! I was born in 1976 dammit and I missed the disco revolution. I recently figured out that the perfect year to be born, in order to appreciate all the best music was 1953. Check it – you’d have been a child during the 50’s and 60’s, so Motown and such would be the soundtrack of your youth. You’d turn 18 in 1971 and disco was KING from then to the end of the 70’s. When the 80’s hit and hip hop was at its finest, you’d be 27 in 1980, so you’d be able to appreciate the next 10 years. By 1990, assuming that you attempted to keep one ear out for great music, you’d have been able to appreciate that 90’s sound like SWV, Guy, Black Girl, En Vogue, Silk, Blackstreet, etc. Obviously, I’ve spent WAAAAAAAAAY too long analyzing this, but think about it for a second and tell me I’m wrong. *lol* 1953 would have been the ideal year!
One of my favorite disco songs:

4) I love seeing my parents now as best friends and grandparents to my son. Although my childhood was fantastic, I kinda always knew that it was about ME and not about ALL of us. Does that make sense? It was no great surprise to me that they fell apart when I left home for college. I was heartbroken, but I did actually understand. Now divorced, they get along better than ever and I dig the maturity of their new relationship.
5) I haven’t taken a vacation since I spent a week in Cancun with the ladies back in 2006! Wow! I’m planning a trip to the Albuquerque International Balloon Festival in 2011. My mom went in 2008, loved it and brought back the most fantastic pictures. So, she, I, little MrTDJ and host of others will be heading out west. I’m super excited already!
6) Year round, Seattle, WA has the kind of weather that I think is just heavenly. I would live there IF it wasn’t so far from the East Coast and my family. I know that plenty of folks live far from their family, but I’m not ready for that. My parents are within 40 minutes of my home now and that’s far enough. I miss my family that’s in NY and GA constantly. I’m kind of a big baby when it comes to things like that.
7) I don’t mind sharing my food or drink with family and friends, however, I do NOT allow anyone to put their utensil onto my plate or drink from my glass. Family style dining and/or ordering food to share when at a restaurant is fine because it’s not the concept of sharing that disturbs me, but another persons’ utensil or lips near my food creeps me out. I’ve thrown away whole plates of food because I wasn’t quick enough to stop someone from breaking that rule. And this rule extends to all, even my dear mother and MrTDJ.
So, there ya go. The second part of the Versatile Blogger Award states that I should pass the award along to a few other bloggers that I think fit the bill. The original challenge was 15, but I’m gonna buck the rules a little and only do 5. I could probably do 100, but decided to keep it small. And of course, this should in no way be perceived as a slight by anyone that I don’t list. *lol* Ya’ll know folks get s.e.n.s.i.t.i.v.e!
****DRUMROLL PLEASE****
Without further ado, I’m pleased to give a Versatile Blogger Award to the following 5 bloggers:
K. Rock over at Don’t Get Excited. . . It’s Just Me
Tiffany over at Life Requires More Chocolate
Aretha over at Everything in Between
Don over at Minus the Bars
Daenel over at Living Outside the Stacks
If you’re not familiar with their blogs, I hope that you’ll check them out and you might discover someone new to follow! Have a great weekend folks!
Congrats Trip! You are SO deserving….so glad that He saw fit to bring you and A into my life 🙂 No surprise that we are >< on #1, #2, #4 and #6 and looking forward to #5! Now lemme go check out these other bloggers…..
Thanks Trip! You two are pretty amazing and I too as so glad that we found each other.
Ha ha! I knew you’d have some similarities! Woo hoo – Albuquerque here we come!!
I used to hate my name. LOL @ the plate revelation. That’s funny.
I’m sorry you hated your name! Do you love it now?
Yeah, I’m kinda nutty with the plate/cup thing. Folks ask, even with your hubby? But ya’ll kiss, don’t you.
Yeah, we do and we even made a child, but that doesn’t mean I want to share utensils with him!
I used to tear up the skating rink to Over Like a Fat Rat. Yes I said skating…roller skates…..the black joints with the red wheels….I know you KNOW what i’m talking bout!!!!
You KNOW I do! Since I was out in Hempstead, we’d go to Laces every third Saturday. And, as an extra special treat, a few older cousins would beg for us to be able to come out to BK to skate at the Empire. I know you KNOW the Empire! Man, those were the days!!! And, I’ll have you know – my skates were white, with pink stripes. Who knew that one bad “reverse” would mar my skates forever? =( I have a super slamming ipod playlist with over 100 disco/dance songs; everything from “Follow Me” to Odyssey’s “Native New Yorker”.
I’ve been playing with the idea of hosting a 70s/80s skate party at one of the local rinks, like Odenton or Crofton. Would you lace ’em up and come out?
Awww, shucks…thanks!
I used to hate my first name…I mean, imagine being called Aretha when you’re 5 and the only other person who has the name is like 50…that wasn’t the hotness on the playground. And, then when I got to middle school, dumb teachers would mispronounce my name by calling me Urethra…really…how gross. But, now I love my name. I think it sounds strong and confident, which is befitting for me!
I wanted to be named Aretha sooooo bad when I was in junior high. I thought it was the most awesome, strong sounding name I’d ever heard.
Aww, I’m sorry you hated your name growing up. I had a classmate named Edna in elementary school and I remember her going through tough teasing sessions.
Agreed, it’s mature and confident. =)
My favorite disco song is “Victim” by Candi Staton. I LOVE THAT SONG! Hmmm wait…is that considered disco? If not, I change my vote to “You Make Me Feel” by Sylvester.
I love my name. Now. Growing up, not so much.
I have already started my 2011 vacation fund – it’s been far too long since I had one!
Yes, both are disco and they are on my ipod!! Love ’em ALL!
And yep, my vacation fund plan is in effect too. Been very diligent about bringing in my lunch and not wasted a fortune per week eating out.
1. I love my name too! Especially the spelling. It’s unique and when people see the spelling my whole life I’ve gotten wow what a pretty name * me smiling big*
2. Yes music is a must! I say it’s the soundtrack to my life and I would be empty without it!
3. Close to the year my mother was born and the reason why I can appreciate all types of music. Favorite disco songs Funkytown, Play that Funky music, Boogie Oogie Oogie and some by the Bee Gees. When those music compulation commercials come on my friends always say “how do you know this song?”LOL!
5. That sounds super fun! Post lots of pics when you get back! I’m trying to get to Italy or Paris in 2011.
6. I commented on another site how Washington state is where I want to live. But my family is here in Cali and I too don’t want to move too far. My mother is 15 min away!
7. LOL! LOL! LOL! I just had to laugh at this one I revealed in my 7 about being a germaphobe. I didn’t even get into the food thing. LOL!
Your post encouraged me to go ahead and give out the award. Thanks!
Exactly! A world without music is a scary thought!! Hey germaphobe twin!!
Omg, I knew we were sisters!
1. Girl, the whole name thing is so dead on ~ I ended up hyphenating my last name because the Mister wouldn’t take mine.
2 and 3. I have often believed that I was born in the wrong decade too because I am a definite throw back when it comes to music. Love that you broke it down for us too. LOL You are too funny.
6. I feel ya on that one, up until 3 years ago, it had been over 10 years since my sisters and I were all under the same roof. After we graduated, we all went our separate ways ~ my sister and I into the military and my other sister married and had kids. It’s hard.
7. Ewwwww….. LOL
And last thank you for passing along the award.
Hey sis! =) What’s wrong with those Misters? Our last names are the BEST! *lol*
Tell me my breakdown wasn’t on point! I know I was born at the wrong time.
You deserve it! I’m happy that I found your blog!
Wow TDJ!!!!!! Thanks soo much for the nod! You know I love you too.
1. Good for you but I hate my name. It is so plain. I feel like I am so much more exciting than my name.
2. I am nuts about music too. I listen to it all day at work.
5. You know I just got back from the vacay and it was all around amazing! I will be blogging about it soon.
I can’t wait to hear all about your vacay! It was a long time coming!
So happy to have found your blog!
You are very welcome for the award. Yes, I was doing some reading, LOL! I try to visit everyone who leaves comments on my blog.
I LOVE Ms. Leela James and saw her last year with a 2 for 1 deal. 2 tickets for $20…the show was wonderful! I danced the entire time 🙂
It took me long time to like my name. And music is my high as well 🙂 I don’t mind sharing my food but do NOT drink out of my glass. That is just disgusting!
Keep posting and I will keep reading.
If Leela James come to the DC/Baltimore area, I am THERE! I would love to see her live!
ooh this is a great idea too because then you can find out about other blogs you’ve been missing out on!
Congrats!
Thanks chica! Yes, please check those folks out. Good stuff!
I love my name, I don’t like people drinking out of my drink, talking over my drink or making any type of quick movements or fast talking near my food. I can’t really get into disco but I’ll hit the dance floor to some Betty ,Otis Reddiing, Michael McDonald or Phil Collins. I can’t think of the genre they are in at the moment. Congratulations on the award. I’m familar with Don and Aretha..I’ll be sure to check out the others.
Sincerely,
Go
